Why Game Design?

The Art & Science of Game Design has always been my passion since before I was old enough to know what Game Design was.

Why do I say art and science? Well, it is my opinion that game design walks the balance of subjectivity and objectivity more than any other medium. The more we learn about games and how people interact with them, the more we learn to tailor our approach to Game Design, creating ever-more efficient and compelling games.

My Game Design Philosophy?

Games, like all art, are both an expression of fantasy and a distillation of reality. As such, it is integral that we understand these concepts deeply in order to make games that succeed in capturing the Player's heart and mind.

This understanding of fantasy and reality can be gained from knowledge of a wide variety of topics such as narrative, philosophy, psychology, and economics.

As Game Designers, it is our duty to develop our thinking on these topics so that we may improve our understanding of games and how individuals interact with them.

"Fantasy is hardly an escape from reality. It's a way of understanding it."
- Lloyd Alexander

What else do I get up to?

Apart from being a gamer myself and playing a wide range of games (my favorite genres are RPGs and strategy games), I enjoy thinking and writing on a wide range of topics, including politics, morality, and philosophy.

It is my goal to one day be an author as well as a game designer, sharing the product of my thoughts with the world.
